Brand Introduction:
⭕Babahamo (Babahamo Blade Works), founded in 1916, is based in Sakai City — the birthplace of a 600-year-old Japanese blade-making tradition.
Their craftsmanship emphasizes harmony between blacksmiths and sharpeners, each contributing their mastery to create top-tier kitchen knives.
Forging:
Blacksmiths heat the steel to over 1000°C, bonding core steel and soft iron, then proceed through multiple processes such as forge-welding, shaping, center correction, rough forging, coarse grinding, back shaping, and heat treatment.
Sharpening:
Unlike blacksmiths who work with fire, sharpeners work with water. Using various whetstones and tools, they refine the blade from rough shaping to final finishing. Adjusting micro-warping in the blade is also one of the sharpener’s key skills.
Handle Mounting:
After marking the blade, the craftsman carefully fits the blade and handle together without distortion, then performs final sharpening to achieve optimal cutting performance.
Steel Introduction:
⭕Chromax Steel is a next-generation semi-stainless steel developed by Takefu Special Steel.
Based on high-carbon steel with approx. 5% chromium added, it reaches ≈HRC 64–65 after heat treatment.
It maintains the incredible sharpness, durability, and easy sharpening feel of traditional carbon steel while dramatically improving corrosion resistance.
Though still semi-reactive, it offers significantly better rust resistance than typical carbon steels, making it a well-balanced steel for both performance and ease of maintenance.
